i am a native chinese and lived in china until freshman. thus i think i will be ok in both ap and sat. withought considering about the major i am gonna choose, which one should i take? ap chinese or sat 2?
thanks!!!

Why not both?
I heard that next year they’re not taking points off for wrong answers on AP exams. So maybe AP would be easier to take. Also it could satisfy language requirements for college.

Why would that affect the difficulty?

Even if you take either/both (I think you should take both) you won’t get much credit from adcoms for these tests, taking into account that Chinese is your native language.

But if you’re only going to choose one, I think you should take the SAT.

Because you won’t have to worry about guessing, even if it is an educated guess.

I still don’t see how that will make it any easier. The curve will compensate.

It (as in the removal of the guessing penalty) won’t make taking the test easier. Rather, it takes away one thing to worry about (whether or not to guess).

For me, this makes the test more stressful because I need to remember which questions I have left to bubble and which answers not to bubble and it could turn into a mess at the end of the MC sections.

OP, I think you should take the AP exam as opposed to the SAT II. I think I’ve read somewhere that admissions officers don’t recommend SAT II’s in a native language. Plus, an 800 on the Chinese exam is about 60th percentile (give and take a bit depending on the year), since the test is so ridiculously easy. You’ll do fine on the AP, so choose that exam. A 5 on AP Chinese will show that you have more Chinese skill than an 800 on the SAT II.
