Should I take AP World History as a sophomore?

Hi! I am currently a freshman in high school but scheduling my classes for next year as a sophomore. This year I’m taking Spanish 2, English 1 honors, Geometry, Biology, world geo, and doing a sport. I have straight A’s right now. Today was my councilor meeting to schedule classes for next year. I scheduled my classes for next year as Spanish 3 honors, English 2 honors, Algebra 2, Chem, and world history which my councilor said were good choices. However she also said that she believes I would do well in AP world history. Before the meeting I had decided not to take the class since I am not extremely interested in history and some of my friends in higher grades said the class was extremely hard for them. My councilor told me I could get the recommendation for whap (AP world history) within the next few days and schedule and appointment back with her to change from regular world history to AP. Now I am debating whether or not I should take it. Any thoughts? Thanks for any feedback!

I say you should take it unless you really HATE history. The content is the course is very interesting (coming from a hope CS major in college). Also, taking the course would give you an idea about AP classes and by junior year you’ve night take 2-3 APs. You could also ask one of the history teachers what you should do.

AP World History is not too difficult a course. I would recommend to take it.

I just took the exam this week and it wasn’t as hard as you think. If you like world history, able to study for weeks, and know the format on how to answer the DBQ( Document Based Questions) and the LEG ( Long essay ) you can get a 4 or 5 easily

Take it! I took it freshman year. Before I took WHAP, I hated history with a burning passion and never found it interesting.

However, I realized that I actually liked history. It’s really fascinating to learn about history from a broader and worldwide perspective.

It’s not hard at all. IMO, it’s one of the easiest APs out there.

Take it. You’ll learn a ton, and you’ll be mind-blown at least a few times.

Honestly, I would recommend any sophomore to take an AP history class. It really taught me how to study effectively and manage my time. It will also help prepare you for AP Euro and APUSH. I took AP Euro, so I am not too sure on AP World, but based on the rest of your schedule, I think you should be good!

@ab2002 What about AP US Government? In my school, it seems normal for sophomores to take it but a lot of you guys are taking it senior year so I’m unsure. Maybe because the history sequences are different?

I’d highly recommend AP World History. It really does give insight to how the world’s past has led to it being how it is today. Also if you haven’t taken an AP class yet, it’s a great one to show how ap classes are different from honors or cp

just took apwh as a freshman and at my school it’s pretty much required for sophomores. it’s one of the easier ap history courses, and tbh i would say it’s the class that got me interested in history. if you know how to study you shouldn’t have too much trouble, and it’s very interesting material - i’d say take it!

I took AP European History Sophomore year and it was a great intro to AP classes. It was difficult enough to challenge me, but I still felt it wasn’t out of place for a high-schooler. If AP WH is anything like that, it’d be a great choice for Sophomore year.

If you are not keen on world history, I recommend not taking the AP version. Its easier to do well in subjects you enjoy.

In my high school, it’s either AP world history or on level. I also agree that you should take WHAP. My sister took it this year and said it was not too difficult and was really interesting as well.
