Should I take APs?

Hey guys,

I'm a junior, and I'm thinking of taking AP tests, but because I'm a junior next May will be the last chance... I'm going to a pretty good private school, but it's an untraditional school, so they do not offer AP classes on purpose.. But the school I personally wanna go is the most-selective and sees the standardized test results, and I know many kids take APs... I'm Asian American, so I feel even more obligated to take some kind of AP tests, because I heard colleges want higher standardized test scores from Asians...

I'm planning to take Eng Lit for SAT Subject Test, and as far as I saw two tests ask about similar things (or at least terms used in the tests were pretty similar), in a slightly different way (multiple choices only - multiple choices & essays).. Is my observation correct? If so, I'm thinking of taking both Lang and Lit, because I studied rhetoric a little bit as well... But I just want to ask you all, do you think I really need to get AP test scores (if my school doesn't offer)? Isn't it worth giving a shot?

The thing is, my school's really anti-multiple choice tests, so they do not offer me SAT preps until this winter. But I'm trying to start it earlier, so I now have SAT Reasoning Test, 2 SAT Subject tests to prepare. And although my school does not offer APs, they have equally challenging curriculum. If my school work was simply easy, then I would have time to get prepared for these tests, but that's not my situation.. So I don't know.

So my questions are, are SAT Subject Test Lit and AP Eng Lit similar in terms of what they ask you? Do you guys think it's better to try APs, or just focus on SATs? I did well on PSAT without preparation (it was easy), but I heard PSAT is hella easier than SAT. What do you think??

There’s no expectation that you’ll self-study APs.

Great… I just felt I need to do something, since everyone else is getting APs. But obviously, their schools offer AP classes… But I’m still thinking I would wanna try AP Eng Lit, if the content is similar to SAT Lit. I skimmed through some prep books, and it seemed similar enough, but I wonder how people who actually took both or at least studied both think. Thanks for the answer, though

Consensus seems to be that if you do well on the Lit SAT, you’re likely to do well on the Lit AP.

Yeah, it totally makes sense that way… I already read two of the threads you linked… I wanted more view on the content, not the form of the test (how long they are, how they ask question)… But thanks dude… And if anyone has an idea, please contribute!!
