I have a pretty heavy courseload at a New England’s boarding school. In my junior year, I’ll be taking:
AP Physics C, Multivariable Calculus, English (AP Literature), Post-AP computer science.
I am deciding between normal US history vs APUSH. My courses are already difficult, so I’m not sure whether I can handle it. Our school generally over-preps you for our APs, so I’m a little worried about grades. Thank you!
AP US History classes tend to have lots of work that a student needs to do. With your course load, it might be better to stick with regular US History. However, that is just my opinion. If you think you can handle it and manage your time well, then go ahead and take it.
It is NOT whether you’re interested. Top colleges want 3-4 years of history. The basics are USH, Euro, and World. The competition will have 4 years, incl AP, if available. And they want balanced rigor in cores, not just what you like.
Sheesh. If you’re in a BS, why aren’t you using your GC?
And why is this my 3rd thread today where a stem wannabe specifically wants to avoid USH in favor of more stem? Odd.
To be fair to the OP, the question was not APUSH vs STEM; it was APUSH vs non-APUSH. @lookingforward . And the OP really has provided too little info. The answer may be different if s/he took other AP history classes vs. no AP history classes. The answer may also be different if the OP had provided the 4-year curriculum plan and discussed post-HS plans.
Although the point that the BS college counselor would have advice tailored to the OP is valid.
