US History Dilemma

I have a dilemma. I don't know if I should take the US History AP or not.

I'm currently in a regulars US History class (no AP or honors available), but this course isn't as easy as it sounds, trust me. The rigor is around a little less than an AP class (the AP class, when they had it, finished a chapter in a day; we finish in 2 days), but hard nonetheless. I'm really debating because currently I'm taking 3 AP classes (English, which I don't need to really prep for, Physics, and Statistics). Physics and Statistics I need to study A LOT in order to get a 4 or 5, if I'm being realistic. Should I channel my time into studying for those subjects, or spread myself and take the APUSH test? With the history, it isn't that I can't do it, its just that when I study for something I make sure I know like everything (or just about everything). I am normally a good writer, and I've done DBQs in World History (Honors only offered; took), and she would write things like "Nice AP answer," so I'm confused on what I should do. I'm scared about the essays (not the DBQs, though I'm a little timid about that).

Note: English is on Monday, Tuesday is Statistics, while US History is on Friday (with Physics being on Monday). Would that be "enough" time to prep myself. I would study along the way, but I mean SERIOUS me only studying that subject only because I could study Physics on weekend.

I didn't think the essays were very hard last year. If you know your facts you can write the essays, there wasn't much like nuance required. The dbqs require much more sophisticated thinking I would say. Anyways, if you manage your time well you can definatly take APUSH. I'd say three nights is a good amount of time to prep, but start studying for all your exams beginning in april so its not too pressurized. Then you'll have the whole weekend to prepare for physics.

BTW, The REA prep book for AP US I found very helpful.

The thing with APUSH is that the multiple choice is easy enough to do VERY well on to compensate for less than stellar essay. I didn't really prep much for the AP test, other than skimming PR's huge history summary, and managed a 5.

I know this isn't like a big thing to base it on, but I looked at the REA, and I did like 10 questions, and got them all right, so maybe I got lucky. Is it better to use REA or the notes from American Pageant?

glucose: If you're shooting for a 5, use REA.
