Hi - so I am a freshman in high school. My school offers Spanish 1, 2, 3, AP but I have no interest in the language and want to take Chinese through an online provider. I am choosing providers that are UC approved since my goal is UCB. I will probably take Chinese 3 or 4 and AP Chinese courses, take the AP exam, and potentially the SAT ii. Do you think this will lessen my chances of getting into UCB because I am ethnically Chinese? My school’s counselor says this will show “extra leadership and initiative” since I decide to choose a language not offered at school. Personally, I think Chinese will benefit me more in the future.
