Hello! I’m a freshman on the pre-med track, planning on majoring in health science. I took CHM2025 (intro to chem) through dual enrollment in high school already and I got a B. My advisor suggested that I retake intro just to have that solid base, so I signed up for it. I’m just wondering what your opinions are on the rigour of these classes. Is taking into to chem over again just going to be a complete waste of my time? I know a lot of people that didn’t have any incoming chemistry credit that are starting off in General Chem. As far as my course load goes, I’m also taing precalc, bio and intro to the professions of medicine (online).
Intro is a waste of time and if you get Mrs. Veige as your teacher it’s worse. It’s really just a quick review. If you’ve got previous Chem experience and are good at teaching and applying yourself you shouldn’t have trouble with going into Chem 1. The only reason you might want to consider intro is your schedule load. If you can handle studying for everything you should be fine. Chem is a lot of learning and application involving numbers, bio is a lot of reading and memorization, pre-calc can be tricky if youre not good with math and when I took it I remember it being tricky becuase the teacher was very random with the questions should would put on her exams. And for what it’s worth I think every advisor tells every science/pre-med major to take intro just at a pre-caution, and becuase it gives you another general science credit plus it gives the university more tuition.
