So I decided to take the Subject Test in Lit in the blue book on a whim the other day. With no preparation, I scored a 780. So, I'm thinking about taking it in January. I got the Kaplan book after hearing that the practice tests were pretty faithful to the actual test. I took two of them and got 740 and 690. I know your grades on these things are supposed to vary from test to test, but I didn't think it would vary that much. I'm inclined to trust the College Board test more than Kaplan's based on prior experience (it predicted my Bio E and Math 1 grades to the exact numbers, 790 and 760 respectively) but I heard that Kaplan was pretty accurate. Should I go for it anyway?

Go for it. Personally, the literature test kills me. I got a 720 on the real test back in May with no preparation, after taking both Math subject tests (so a little tired), and this time in October again with no preparation after only taking Chemistry (not very tired), and I already know I didn’t get an 800 and probably scored significantly lower. This plays against perfect scores on the SAT reading/writing and the ACT reading/writing, so personally, the Literature is a pretty tough cookie to take with no preparation, but on the same side of that coin, I’m almost certain that with a week or two’s worth of serious preparation most people in the same situation as me can score a perfect 800.
