Should I take Literature or USH?

Hey everyone!

I’m an international rising senior who completely ruined my June SAT subject tests. Now, for october, I am planning on taking two other subject tests.

One of the tests I want to take is French, as I will be following a four weeks course in French this summer. I’ve also had a lot of French classes in school.

I just can’t decide what I want my second subject test to be. I’m debating between Literature and USH. I’m very good at reading, and I consistently get around a 34/35 on my ACT reading. The thing is, as I am an international student, I’ve never read American literature. Do I need this to succeed?
If literature isn’t an option, I want to take American History. The thing is, we’ve barely covered any American History in class. Is it possible to completely selfstudy for the test?

So, my question is: Which one is easier to selfstudy for, USH or Literature? And is it a problem that I’ve barely read any American literature? Also, which books are best to selfstudy for those two subject tests?

Thanks a lot!

Anyone?

I would do USH simply because people generally find it easier and the questions are less subjective since they’re honestly just straight forward facts. All you need is a PR book or even an AP AMSCO book, read through it and memorize the dates and facts. Literature is extremely hard in general and from what I’ve noticed, is more of a test where you have to be naturally good rather than studying hard. Even after taking a 5 in AP Lit, and an 800 in CR, I, myself would still not take the SAT Literature exam.

Personally I found the literature test much much easier than USH. Having not studied American lit/history won’t have much affect on either test. It comes down to: are you better at analyzing literature or memorizing hundreds of history facts? Lit isn’t so bad as long as you have some experience with literary analysis (as well as strength in reading)

US History was incredibly easy for me, but I took APUSH. Try taking a few practice tests of both to see which might work better for you.

So on the tests on the collegeboard website, I had 16 out of 29 correct on USH, and on Literature 21 out of 23. So I’m leaning towards Literature.

US History is easier to study for and literature is a bit harder to study for, it comes “naturally”. US History also has a much easier curve.
