I am currently a senior enrolled in stats. I am hoping to go to a university one day. I have never liked math and I already took 3 years (algebra 1, geometry, and algebra 2). I want to go to a Cal State like CSUN or CSULB. I want to be a psychologist. Should I switch out of stats or no ??
I would take 4 years of Math at your High school. It will make you more competitive at the Cal States especially Long Beach. 3 years of Math is the minimum but the majority of applicants will have above the minimum CSU requirements. If you look at the degree requirements for Psychology at CSULB, Statistics is a course requirement. Having prior knowledge will help once you are in college. Keep Stats.
Understanding stats is exremely important in interpreting/doing social science research. Even if you take stats in high school, you will most certainly take it again in college if you major in psychology, where the material will be covered much faster. If math is not your strong point, it’s even more important that you start grasping the concepts before you’re exposed to it more intensely in college. BTW, I was a little math-phobic in school but I enjoyed statistics. Good luck!
i agree, stats is a good course to take Sr year.
I agree, keep stats. It’ll help with CSU admissions and with the required statistics courses for your major.
Statistics will be useful or required in many social sciences, including psychology.
There may be some colleges where the psychology major requires precalculus or calculus (e.g. UCR) in addition to statistics, so if any such college is on your application list, you may want to add precalculus to your schedule.
If CPSLO is on your application list, you will get extra MCA points for taking up to four semesters of advanced math courses (precalculus or calculus).
