Hi! I'm new to College Confidential and in advance, I'm sorry if I posted this under the wrong section of the forums. Just going to start phrasing my jumbled question...

*** IF YOU WANT TO GO TL;DR ON ME, see the last paragraph of this post.

Should I take music classes just for college?

Haha, I know that this question has been asked multiple times but under different terms, for example: "Should I take X sport just to put it on my extra-curricular activities list?"

Honestly, I'm getting insanely envious of those "smart" music students and how they are always winning awards. Soon, they will get scholarships too. I'm asking this question because I'm wondering if I should take the class solely for scholarships, awards, merit, etc. and to fulfill the art requirement at my high school to graduate. Is it worth it?

Then again, I'm thinking about just volunteering/ECs/clubs/sports and wondering if that is sufficient to get into pre-med/medical school/etc. I'm a successful 4.00 GPA student and I'm doing extremely well in my classes. None of my cousins have ever touched a music instrument and are [somewhat] successful with their lives. I know colleges want well-rounded students but my reluctance to play an instrument is growing by the moment.

I dropped music class in sixth grade because my parents thought "music is stupid"--a decision I deeply regret. I'm missing out on the opportunities to garner more success. I'm scared to confront my music teacher because I dropped his class without telling him. He even gave me a free instrument to borrow.

TL;DR? Okay, here's the layout of the situation: I want to take music class just for scholarships and awards but I was wondering if it's necessary to take the class to become successful. I also somewhat dislike music but I'm willing to take it if it will help me in the future.
