Should I Take SAT II's? If so which ones? Help!

Hi! So at the beginning of this year I made a chance me thread for some colleges that I was interested in applying to. I have pretty good SAT/ACT scores. However, as I was thinking about applying to colleges this upcoming year, I wondered if I had made a mistake by not taking any SAT II’s? I was going to take the biology subject test, but I ended up focusing on other stuff and I decided not to take it. As my junior year progressed, I kept thinking of more schools that I was considering applying to. So I had some questions and was wondering if anyone could answer them for me. I’m applying ED to a school that does not require them, but there are a few RD I’m planning on applying to that probably would like to see them.

One school in particular that I want to apply to that recommends them (strongly I’m guessing) is Johns Hopkins University. I feel if I do not take at least two of them, then I definitely have no shot at getting in. I think I have a small chance with my GPA, E.Cs, SAT/ACT Scores, etc. However, I just feel like these may be beneficial to take. My biggest worry is that I go in there and completely just bomb them terribly. All of the tests that I would be interested in taking would have to be taken on the Nov 7. SAT date (minus Spanish which would be Dec 5 which might be cutting it close for an ED that is due January 15??).

So, should I take them or just skip on them? My intended major is going to be either biology, biochemistry, or nursing. Biochemistry is what I am leaning towards though. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!!

Bump, anyone have any advice?

If you plan on applying to any schools that request subject test scores, then yes, I would suggest that you take them under the assumption that most of the other applicants will be submitting them. If your SAT I or ACT is decent, I seriously doubt that you would “bomb” the subject tests. As to which ones, unless the college gives “suggestions,” that’s up to you. if you leaning toward biochem, Math + a science is a good choice.

@skieurope ACT: 34 / SAT: 2200. I honestly only think I did that good because of it testing different areas. I’m worried that I’m going to do bad on SAT II’s because they cover specific subjects, but there are so many questions they could ask you about a specific subject. I think Math Level 2 and Chemistry would be good, I’m just wondering if I’m prepared enough to take it. I have no idea which prep books would be good to use.

For Math 2, use the Kaplan prep to memorize important formulas and get a good feel of the test. If the practice tests on that are too easy, get the Barron’s book. It’s very intensive, and if you can successfully complete it, you’re basically guaranteed an 800. (I got an 800 like this)

For your intended major, definitely take the Bio and Chem tests. I got a 760 on the bio test after taking AP Bio with only a week or so of prep, I believe with the Barron’s book. I haven’t taken Chemistry yet but it appears quite similar to the AP curriculum, and Barron’s would be a good choice.
