So if I’m applying to UPenn ED and they “recommend” subject tests, should I still take them if my only option is the last possible date (November) and I won’t be able to see the scores before I send them? Or should I possibly just apply regular decision that way I could review my scores before sending them? (I know I should have take them earlier but this was a last minute decision) I would also like to know how necessary the sat subject tests are and how much they play a role in the admissions process. Thank you!
SAT Subject Tests are tools used to measure your achievement in a specific subject. If the school recommends you to take them, then take them. The subject tests are another layer to your applicqtion. Just take the tests you are sure of and if you have to, study for the tests.
If schools recommend subject tests, generally it doesn’t look great if you don’t take them unless you have some excuse. I would say for a school like UPenn that it is a must that you take them.
If you can afford them (don’t come from a lower SES background) then you really need to take them.
Take them, but don’t let them become a huge source of pressure for you. They’re not nearly as important as your regular SAT, your GPA or even your EC’s and essays. Of course it’s important to do well, but in this case it’s better that you submit mediocre subject tests than none at all.
