Hey guys! So I’m applying to colleges this year and I’m planning on sending my ACT + writing score (which is currently at a 33 but planning to bring it up to a 35). And most colleges are cool with no sat subject tests if you’re just sending in act + writing. Only two of my colleges talk about like considering sat subject tests/having them as a complete testing profile. The earliest I can take them is October and I honestly don’t know if I should take them? I’m a pretty busy senior with 5 AP classes to take and a lot of extracurricular activities. I think it’s clear from my entire transcript that testing scores aren’t my strong point. I have like a 3.83 GPA but I do have a lot of leadership and have done well in a national debate tournament twice. I also have a decent amount of leadership and like ~50 volunteer hours. Should I take the SAT subject tests? I don’t know if I have time to really invest a lot of time to studying it. Thanks!
which colleges?
@menloparkmom The colleges that mention SAT subject tests are Pomona and Tulane.
@menloparkmom if this helps at all, I also have taken 3 AP tests (Gov, French, and Calc AB) and got 5, 4, 4
Pomona says this:
“As a part of the candidate’s application, Pomona College requires either the SAT Reasoning Test OR the ACT. In submitting their application for admission consideration, we recommend students send to Pomona reports of all test scores, whether ACT, SAT Reasoning or SAT Subject tests.”
http://www.pomona.edu/admissions/first-year-admissions/testing
So just submit your ACT scores and you will be JUST fine.
@menloparkmom it also says "SAT subject tests are no longer required, but may be sent as part of a complete testing profile. " so idk ? haha do you think my testing profile is super incomplete?
Pomona has dropped the subject test requirement it previously had. However, its prior requirement was to submit either SAT and two subject tests, or, as an alternative to both of those, the ACT. In essence, it previously considered the ACT enough even when it had a subject test score requirement and thus you are likley OK submitting only ACT now. Tulane has never required subjec tests and large numbers who apply and get admitted there do not submit them.
