I'm applying to Duke, Stanford, Notre Dame, Brown, WashingtonU St Louis, and UChicago.
Do these schools require or care whether or not I take the speaking portion with the Spanish test?

I'm not a native speaker, but I can read/understand Spanish pretty fluently. My actually speaking of the language though sounds like a gringo and generally makes my Spanish friends say "what"?

What exactly is the speaking section anyways?

It’s actually with/without listening. You bring a CD player and headphones, and they give you a CD for the listening part. You listen to conversations and answer questions about them. Something like that.

I took the Spanish SAT Subject Test WITHOUT listening in May.

It’s 85 questions, about half grammar / fill in the blank, which isn’t on the AP, and about half reading comprehension, like on the AP. There are also really short advertisements that you have to comprehend and answer a couple Qs about.
I did well just based on in class AP prep and being good at grammar.

If you like grammar (and it’s pretty easy grammar) then take this one. But if you really hate grammar, and you loved the listening part of the AP then I guess take it in November. Remember that it’ll be native speakers speaking really fast and with weird accents though. So if you’re at all good at grammar, stick with this one while the AP stuff is still fresh in your mind.

Good luck! I hope you’ve already signed up for June. Have you?

Edit: oh and I doubt schools care. Pick whichever you think you’ll do better on.
