Should I take subject tests?

So the situation currently is that none of the school's i am looking at require, or even recommend, SAT Subject tests.

My list currently is:

University of Delaware (In state)
Penn State
Northeastern
Case western

My one and only SAT score is a 1730. I have brought my practice tests, over the summer, up to around a 2100. My question is should I focus solely on boosting this score, or should I also study for & take 2 subject tests to better my application ? Just for reference, it's pretty strong already (tons of ECs, 3.7 unweighted, 5th in class out of 420, numerous varsity sports, etc.).
Are the subject tests worth my time?

Well, it’s really up to you. I would recommend that if you are a senior, you should focus on improving your SAT I score. I’ve seen a lot of seniors trying to juggle their SAT I and SAT IIs together and for most people, it usually ends up hurting one or more of their scores. Unless you’re confident that you can get 700+ on one of those SAT II tests, I wouldn’t recommend taking time away from your SAT I.

I knew a senior who was trying to take her last SAT I in October and SAT II Math 2 in November. She had a really hard time with that and her SAT I score only went up around 60 points, but she did get a 800 on the SAT II MAth2. It’s not impossible and some people are able to handle it, so it depends on how much risk you’re willing to take.

Personally, if it’s not necessary for admission, you should put it off until you have all the necessities taken care of.

Are you a rising sr?

Are you sure that those are the only 4 schools you’ll be applying to or is there a possibility you’ll add a school that requires or recommends Subject tests?

Thanks for the replies. I am a rising senior. There is definitely a possibility of increasing my list to include more school, either on the same level as the listed ones or slightly above. I doubt, however, that any future colleges I may consider will require any subject tests.

Are the subject tests even necessary unless you’re applying to an ivy league?

Sent from my Desire HD using CC

Taking the ACT may be worth a try, since some students do significantly better on the ACT (while others do significantly better on the SAT).

In terms of the subject tests, do any of the schools you will apply to even consider them?

On college board, it is listed that Northeastern recommends subjects tests “for some” applicants. Other than that, however, no other schools consider them.

Have you checked Northeastern’s web site to see if you are among the “some applicants” it recommends subject tests for?

Look specifically into what programs you’re interested in at each school. Some majors may recommend/require you to take subject tests. If not, I’d suggest studying to improve your SAT I score.
