Should I Take the SAT Subject Tests?

Hi, so basically all of the schools I am planning on apply to do not require or recommend submitting SAT subject tests. However, some people have told me taking and submitting them looks good to different colleges and I was just looking for some thoughts on this. Here are the schools I'm considering at the moment. Please any advice at all would be wonderful!

American University
Colgate University
Dickinson College
Elon University
Fordham University
Furman University
Loyola Maryland University
University of Michigan
Penn State
University of Richmond
University of South Carolina
Syracuse University
Villanova University
Wake Forest

Thanks so much!

I would take 2 and do well just because it helps you stand out and be more competitive. Take one math and one science/humanities.

For the schools you list the answer is generally no, don’t bother. American neither requires nor recommends SAT IIs but may give them some consideration if submitted. Michigan is the same. For both of those, the overwhelming majority of applicants do not submit subject test scores but if you really have an overwhelming desire to go through the torture of taking subject tests those would be the only two on your list that good scores might help a little. The rest you list don’t use them for admission and thus submitting them won’t help you “stand out.” It is still true that the majority of colleges don’t use SAT IIs. Wake Forest goes even further: you don’t need any tests at all including SAT or ACT although it will give some consideration to those if submitted.

For a list of colleges that do require, recommend or consider subject tests, go here: <a href=“SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group”>SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group;

Thanks for the help, the three I was going to take are US History (since I’m in AP this year and studying for that will help with the actual AP Test), Math I, and Literature.

I know people who submitted perfect SAT II scores to some of the colleges there and got rejected while extremely similar applicants didn’t sit for these and got got in. So from experience, I can tell you that there is not much point. Do something more productive.

Although you can still give the tests and send the scores if they are good. Doesn’t do you any harm if you are actually good at those subjects.

Okay thank you!
