I know I want to major in business but I don’t know what I want to specifically major in (possible accounting or finance). I’m not sure if I can take accounting my senior year at my HS but I want to make sure I like it before I devote my life to it, obviously. With that said, should I take an introductory accounting class at my local community college over the summer between junior and senior year?
I would do something else over the summer. If you know you want business that is enough to apply to college – you don’t need to declare a major until second semester sophomore year. So apply to business schools as business-undecided. Or if you apply as an accounting major it will be easy to switch to another business discipline when you are there. Once you start college you will see that there is a business core curriculum – everyone in the business school will take some intro. to accounting, finance, management, IT etc. classes. IMO the best thing you can do is to wait until you are in college, take the introductory classes, see where your interests and aptitudes lie, and then choose a major.
