I have taken the SAT twice (both times I didn't study) which is no excuse, but I got horrible scores:

CR:620, M:540, W: 600= 1760
CR: 570, M:540, W:620= 1730
Or superscored which would be 1780.

I also took the ACT in the spring of my junior year, which I got a 25 (R:29, W:25, M:24, S: 22).

The reason I am wondering if I should take it again is because I really want to go to the UofChicago, and I want to know if I should take the ACT in Feb. (they accept it for RD), and I do feel like I could do better if I study.

Any thoughts?

If you think you can do better, and they’ll accept it if you take it in feb., then I think it’s a good idea to take it

I would go for it. (The ACT at least - that’s the only test I have experience with, sorry.)According to the ACT website, about 55% actually increase their composite score. I know when I took it, I didn’t study the first time. The second time, I studied a total amount of about an hour and a half and raised my composite by three points. I took it again, and studied a substantial amount more, and raised it another three points, so your chances are pretty good. Just put in the effort, and you have a pretty good chance that you’ll do better. Plus, even if you only increase your score by a point or two, you’ll still set yourself that much more apart from the rest of the applicants. Hope this helps, and good luck! :)

(P.S. - If you’re looking for something to help you study, I just checked out a copy of the Princeton Review’s “Cracking the ACT” from my local library. Not only does it give you practice problems and tests, but it goes over the format of the ACT so you know exactly what kind of questions are going to be asked. It shows you how to come up with the answers and it also goes over some really helpful strategies. It helped me out a TON.)

Would taking it again, this time in Feb. (even though the website say the college will accept the scores), hurt my chances?

Doesn’t look like you have much choice if you’re aiming for Chicago level schools.

Thanks, I will definitely be taking the ACT.

Yes, you should most certainly retake the ACT. You will want to aim for a 33+ to be a competitive applicant for UChicago.
