Should I take the ACT or the SAT? Help me decide!

I recently took the free practice test that the College Board offers online. I scored a 550 in CR :/ a 700 in Math, and a 610 in writing. I am a sophomore BTW. BUT, just today I took the barrons CR and got a score in the 600-640 band. I'm perplexed by this. Isn't barrons harder than the actual SAT? Is this telling me that I made a 50 point improvement as indicated, or maybe a 100 point improvement? (assuming that barrons is harder). It may be due to myself developing the strategy of bracketing the lines that are referred to in the questions and reading the passage and answering the questions that I bracketed in order, then moving to the general questions after the line specifics. Writing I feel I could raise to around a 670. Writing feels like I get better every time I do it because I learn from my previous mistakes. Writing shouldn't be a problem. I am most worried about reading. I hope to have a score of 2000 like so:

700 Math
630 CR
670 Writing

Can it be done?

Now onto the ACT deal...

I signed up for the PLAN in november and when I received my results, I scored in the top 2% of PLAN takers and it estimated my score to be between 28 and 32 when I take the ACT. I felt that the PLAN was ooohhh soooo eassy (besides the time constraints). No studying or previous knowledge of the format of the test BTW.

With that said....

I know I can waltz right into the ACT test taking room and pull a 30+, but I feel like I have to prove to myself that I can get a 2000 on the SAT. I feel that although a 30 coverts to ~ a 2000, it's less commendable and prestigious than a 2000. I feel like I am OBLIGATED in my own mind to get a 2000. What should I do?

My previous SAT practice test to my goal would be about a 140 point increase. Can it be done? BTW, if I got all the vocab questions right, I would have been in the 650-690 score band. Missed about 5 of those.

Thank you guys!

Why not take both?

I pulled my SAT score up from the 1900s (March) to the 2200s (May) when I first took it (that was in 2005, when I was studying to become an SAT tutor). Since then I’m up in the upper 2300s. So yes, a 140 increase is definitely possible, but it takes a lot of work!

You can definitely increase your SAT score. Just take practice tests and try to understand why you made certain mistakes and what should you know in the future to get such questions right.
