Act vs. Sat???

I got 2230 on SAT
790-W
710-CR
730-M

I struggle with CR..I thought I did quite well but my score is still pretty low.
I heard the ACT's reading section is much easier, less vocab, and more straightforward math (I'm in CalcAB so I can do hard math it's just how tricky the SAT math is that messes me up)

SHOULD I try the ACT?
Even though I've never taken it and I have no idea how well I'll do on the science section.
But I don't want to risk getting a low score..?

Or try the SAT again to bring up my CR/M scores so my superscore is better?

Or just forget about SATs because it's a pretty decent score?
I'm just a junior though so i DO have time to prepare.

Sure, try the ACT. The math and science are cake, though I thought the reading was difficult to finish since I went in with zero preparation. The ACT is an easier test and more a test of time management. If you're prepared, you'll do well.

From what I've seen the people who do bad (not saying you did bad, your score's great) on the SAT seem to do well on the ACT. Don't know why, just what I've seen among the people I know.

I'd do the ACT, if only for the fact that the writing ACT section counts toward your composite, while on the SAT most colleges just toss aside the writing or glance at it.

I didnt know that!
Is the writing section on the ACT just an essay or does it have MC like the SAT?

the english section of the ACT is pretty much the writing MC for the SAT. the essay doesn't factor into your composite though

I'd say give the ACT a try. If you do badly, you just won't send it. :p

Does the english section of the ACT include reading passages as well?

Is the ACT essay graded like the SAT essay? same type of questions..etc?
like for the SAT one, if you follow a certain format you'll get 8+ basically

Thank you guys for all the help so far!

Yes, the ACT essay is graded just like the SAT essays, but the prompts are a little different. The ACT tends to ask you to write about something specific, and they try (and fail, IMO) to make topic that we kids can relate to, e.g. high school activities.

The ACT has four sections: English, Math, Reading, Science. In that order. Each one takes around an hour, I'm too lazy to find the specifics, but the point is that it isn't broken up like the SAT.

IMO the ACT science is awful... I can't understand why it's on there. But I do alright on it, so ehh. ACT reading is more straightforward than the SAT and there's no vocabulary. ACT English is basically like a bunch of giant paragraph fixing q's, it's quite easy. Personally, I find ACT math much harder than SAT math, but others say they're comparable..

For what it's worth, I got both a 34 ACT and 2130 SAT in June, and that ACT score is obviously better.. But I've just finished retaking both tests (Oct. ACT and Nov. SAT) and I'm expecting maybe a 33 and a 2250. Hope I helped, anyway! :)

That helped alot highhopes! I had no idea about the ACT sections. I've always taken the SAT.

If I get a 34 on my ACT..is it better to submit both scores? Or just one of them? If so, which one?

And good luck with your ACT/SAT scores!

Thanks!

Since I have a 34 ACT, I can tell you that it's equivalent to a 2280 SAT. I would send both.

Wow, great ACT score already!

That's very helpful. where would I find a SAT/ACT score conversion table?

wikipedia has one. no link, sorry

http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/act-sat-concordance-tables.pdf

I found one!

It doesnt seem like I would get THAT high of an ACT score. Probably around 33-34 with some practice.

Is that much better than a 2230 though?
