I am a junior, and I am wondering if I should take the ACT. I already took the SAT and I got a 2220. I took the SAT subject test in the following areas and got the following scores: SAT Math II: 740 SAT Biology: 800 SAT Chemistry: 760 SAT Physics: 780 SAT World History: 770. I am applying to CalTech, Columbia, Berkeley, UChicago, MIT, Stanford, Princeton, UPenn, and Yale. Would taking the ACT be beneficial for these schools, and with my SAT score?

You’re already in the high range with your SAT, meaning you can do really well on that test…personally, I’d take the SAT once more just to try to improve even a little bit more.

I wouldn’t bother taking the ACT -or retaking the SAT for that matter. Unless you have one low outlier score (and I mean less than 700), anything 2200+ is a great score. Retaking it is pretty much a waste of the three hours of test taking time + however long you spent studying. You would be better spent using that time working on your college essays and extracurriculars.

Yes, I know a kid this year who got into MIT with a 2240.
While those schools have higher average standardized test scores among their incoming freshmen, standardized test scores and GPA aren’t everything for admission. Plenty of kids have high SAT scores, so it has to be your essays and extracurriculars that will serve to set you apart from the rest of the students with 2200+ scores

True, I know two dudes who got into MIT with 2100s. Their ECs were outstanding (one was a jailbreak expert and programmer by the time he was 13).
