Should I take the ACT?

Hello everyone

I am a senior and I just took the SAT 2 weeks ago I got an equivalent to a 32 in the ACT (studied 35+ hours to achieve this). If I were to take the ACT I will be looking for a 33+. I am stronger in math but weaker in reading and writing. I heard that the ACT is more challenging in Math but easier in Reading and Writing, is this true? If I were to take the ACT I will have to take it in December. What study materials do you recommend me to get and how should I study?

Thanks

Honestly, I feel like the ACT is easier in Math but a bit more challenging in Reading because of the time constraints. If you’re okay with reading 4 passages and answering 40 questions in 35 mins, then go for it!

As for studying, just take practice tests. Don’t waste time reading the science passages, go straight to the graphs/figures/tables. Take as many practice tests as you can. This improved my score immensely.

Good luck!

Thank you for your advice

he best way to study for the ACT is to practice with REAL ACT tests. The 3rd edition of the Real ACT Book (Red Book) has 5 tests to get you started. They are old, but you will get a feel for most of the concepts. Then move on to released tests from 2013/2014/2015.

TIME each practice session to simulate the real test.

English 75 questions in 45 min.
Math 60 questions in 60 min.
Reading 40 questions in 35 min.
Science 40 questions in 35 min

Score your test, and then review only what you got WRONG after each practice session.

I suggest the following schedule:

Take 1 section each week night/with review for 4 nights/week.

Twice per month on a Saturday or Sunday take a full ACT test/with review.

Track your progress!

Here is a detailed sample schedule to get started, modify it to meet your needs:

Mon: English section with review

Tues: Math section with review

Wed:. Reading Section with review

Thu. Off

Fri: Science Section with review

Sat: FULL ACT with review

Sun: Off

Thanks, this is exactly what I need. I really appreciate taking some of your time to help me out.

You’re welcome, @Nadzilla.

You still have a good amount of time to prep for December.
