Should I take the ACT?

November of last year I took the SAT for the first time and got

totals 2040
critical readings 660
writings 670
mathermaytacs 710

I was able to get the 670 writing with a total score of 7 on my essay (lol)
so I think critical reading is my weakest section, and I think I might get a more impressive ACT score than SAT (this true?).

I will take the SAT about a week from now for the last time, I haven't really studied so I don't think the score will jump over 100 points. Probably more like 30 to 60. I dunno.

Take the act? will it look bad to have taken both or not at all?

Also, can anybody point to a very known to be true source for info on how to do well on the SAT essay? I don't really want to get another 3 and 4.

it won't look bad to take both, it just depends on how you feel. if you think you can do better, then you should take it. maybe buy a practice book first and see how you do on a practice test.

i got a 12 on my sat essay-the main thing they want to see is that you understand the question and intelligently respond with 3 examples that proves/disproves whatever they give you. always read that quotation before the actual prompt to get an idea of what they want, and try to work it in maybe as a hook or as a conclusion if it's effective. Use strong vocabulary and complex sentence structure, and you should be fine. good luck
