I am planning to be a computer science major and I was wondering if I really need to take the AP test for English Literature. I'm really not looking forward to the test at all, and I feel that I would be willing to just take the general English class in a college instead of taking the AP test and getting out of it. My English class is my least favorite class right now and I feel that I would receive a 3 or a 4 on the test at best.
I am applying to UCI, UC Berkeley, UCSD, USC, Rose hulman institute of technology, Colorado School of Mines, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
What would be your suggestions on the matter with regards to where I may be going to school?

you might not mind taking the ge English course during college, but why not take the ap test and get the credits for it?
you’ll save time and money, and with the extra class opening you can take more classes pertaining to your major and graduate faster.

How much faster do you think I would graduate if I only skip that class? I feel like it’d still be at least the same semester or something.

depends on if you took the ap Lang test. With both tests, it’d probably be worth one year of English credits.

Is there any downside to being in the general ed course? Just repeating some information or being in a class with people who didn’t work as hard in high school?

I’m at UC Davis and there is no ‘general english class’ that i have needed to take that
AP Lit would have gotten me out of. I just looked at the AP Credit form and passing that test would give 8 quarter credits in English. It does cover the ‘entry level writing requirement’, which I got out of anyway by getting the minimum of 680 on the writing part of SAT.
In my mind - if I had a choice of taking a 3 hour test on literature/writing, or a whole quarter/semester class (which would have many papers and tests, too), I would surely take the AP test!
