Should I take the Math 12 provincial exam?

I'm currently in grade 11 in BC, but in grade 12 math. My school mark is about 98-99% for the course, would it be worth it to take the provincial? It's worth 40%, and I don't want to bother taking an exam to potentially lower my mark if there are no other benefits. I know about the $1000 scholarship, and am not worried about having enough provincial exam A's. I'm looking to apply to Ivy league and other top US schools, would they care about whether I took the provincial exam or not? I also got an 800 for math on the SAT I, if that makes a difference.

From my experience, American schools wouldn’t care at all.

I took Math 12 last summer and opted not to write the provincial. This past admissions cycle, I was accepted to Notre Dame (which I will attend—go Irish!), Penn (an Ivy), and several top LACs. Choosing not to take the provincial has had absolutely no impact on my college application experience, and I sincerely doubt that it will make a significant impact on others’ as well. Then again, I am going to take the History 12 and Literature 12 provincials in the coming week, in the hopes of getting a free thousand bucks.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck applying next year!

Hi onimpulse,
Thanks for your advice, and congrats on your acceptances!
