Hi,
I took the Math Subject Test II last year as a sophomore and got a 750. I was thinking of taking it again this year as a junior but am not sure. Would colleges want me to take it again, or would they appreciate the fact that I got a 750 as a sophomore? I don’t know how important a 790/800 is on a subject test, especially if I am looking to go into business. I am taking AB Calculus this year, so I would have to study the material on the subject test again because it is math that I learned a couple years ago. I am also taking the US History subject test if you want to know.
Thanks!
When it comes to Subject tests, you can typically choose the scores you want to report to colleges that require them. It doesn’t hurt to retake Math II, especially since even an 800 puts you around the 83rd percentile nationally, but know that a 750 would never disqualify you from admission, especially if you’re applying to Business-heavy schools as opposed to Engineering-heavy schools.
Would schools care if you got a 790+ as opposed to a 750? Probably very little. If you were a junior or senior when you got the 750, I would probably recommend that you not take it again.
However, since you still have some time, I think you should absolutely take it again. If you can make a 750 sophomore year, it seems intuitive that you could raise your score significantly by the end of this year. Schools love improvement, and every little bit helps.
