My school is offering it on October 15 so that leaves me about a month to study for it. That being said, should I take it or can I just study everything and take the SAT in Spring 2015? I really only need to study the math and reading because the school I'm applying to only looks at those two (and not writing). As I see it, it's really a gauge for seeing later improvement. Did you take the PSAT and did it help you immensely or will it not matter too much?

At my high school, we HAD to take the PSAT, freshman and sophomore year. It does a good job at gauging where you’re at, what you need to work on, and etc. There’s nothing to lose by taking it, in my opinion!

It gives you a good sense of how the SAT will be and what your relative score range will be. Additionally, if you’re a junior, you’ll be eligible for the national merit scholarship, which you become a finalist for by earning a high score on the PSAT (generally 220+ish, varies by state)

According to another of your posts you are a Junior this year. As @Matt846 states this will be your only qualification try for National Merit. If you make NMF then there is a distinct set of scholarships from various schools available to you up to full ride. Take the test, study for it.
