Okay, I'm a ninth grader, and I'm thinking about taking the SAT IIs. I've wanted to take them for so long, but I'm having second thoughts knowing that if I do bad, it will count on my school records for college. I wanna take the Math IC SATII and the Biology SATII. Will it matter to colleges if I do bad on them? I've been taking practice tests and I've been usually getting in the mid 600s for both. Is that good enough?

I would wait until the end of 10th grade to start them, if I were you. Your brain develops a lot between 9th grade and the end of 10th grade, and from 10th to the end of 11th, etc. Plus, the more you learn, the better you will do on the Subject Tests, as they are achievement tests. There is really no point to take SATIIs that early.

Definitely. You're in ninth grade. Go do something fun, don't think about anything college-related for two years, and then come back and start asking questions. Take up biking. Or read something fun... like Atlas Shrugged or Walden or something. Or swim. You could learn how to play the bagpipes!

JJ09, I agree that you shouldn't be too stressed out right now, but....I assume you mean you're going into 9th grade in the fall. Are you taking Honors or AP Bio in 9th grade? If you're already scoring mid 600's on Bio practice tests, and you're about to take a full year of a tough Bio class, AND you won't ever take Bio again after 9th grade, then you should definitely go ahead and take the Bio Subject Test in May or June of next spring.

As for the Math Level 2, I bet you're the type who is going into pre-calc as a 9th grader. If so, maybe go ahead and take the Math 2 at the end of the school year. Once you've moved on to AP Calc, you're well beyond the math content on the Math 2.

Obviously the point is to take these tests when you're finishing the class that corresponds. I agree that you're more likely to do better on other subjects at the end of 10th and 11th grader when you're that much more seasoned with standardized tests and academically in general. I have, however, seen some students post high 700's scores in 9th grade and that definitely takes some pressure off.

Now get off of CC and come back in two years.

If you are a rising 10 grader, I think you may take SAT II.
