Should I take the SAT once more or no?

I’ve already taken the SAT twice: once in October 2017 when I got a 1520, and once in June 2018 when I got a 1490. My superscore across both is only a 1530.

I’ve been advised not to take it again, because then colleges will see I’ve taken the test three times and it will look like I’m obsessed over my score. But the reason I want to take it again is because I don’t think sending a 1530 superscore along with two scores that show my performance dipped over time is a good idea.

What should I do? Is it worth the risk if I take it in October, or should I stick with my scores as they are now?

Take it again if you like, but understand that it’s not uncommon for already high scorers to do worse on subsequent tests. A superscore of “only” 1530 is an excellent score. If you apply to colleges that require all scores, they will see all of them, so even if you score higher, they will see your 1490. If you apply to colleges that allow superscoring, you have a great superscore. My opinion is it ain’t broke, so don’t fix it.

I appreciate your response.

Does it matter at all to colleges that I got that lower score in June? I mean, would they understand that the only reason I took the test the third time is to make up for the fact that my “final” SAT went so poorly?

@amanwithaplan Both of your scores on in the top 1%. The difference between a 1490 and a 1530 is only a few questions. And considering the June curve, you probably missed fewer questions on the June test. If you get denied from a college, it won’t be because of your SAT scores. I would not take it again. Focus on the rest of your application.

Okay, thanks a lot. Appreciate the help.

If you are a senior, I would not take it again and would focus on your applications, essays and getting good grades in school. Your scores are very good and like a poster said above, separated by only a few questions.

On the other hand, if you are a junior, you might take it again. Most schools do not require you send all SAT results, so you would only send the one(s) that make your application the strongest. Of course there are a few schools that want all your test results, like Georgetown. Good luck.
