should i take the sat or act?

I took the SAT in November and got a 1260 overall with a 680 on reading/writing and a 580 math. I didn’t take essay that time, but I have since realized that one of the schools I want to apply to requires either SAT or ACT with essay. I tend to be better with English and Writing, and worse at math. I’m fairly good at Algebra, but awful at Geometry. Which should I take, and what are your tips for getting a good score?

You should take one of the official ACT practice exams, score it, then use the official score concordance to see if your personal skills/comfort level favor either of them.

There are many pinned posts in the test prep forum with tips on how to improve your score.

As for which test is better…it’s a case of choosing your poison. While the SAT is more generous with time, it is more convoluted, especially in Reading. The ACT is much more straightforward, but it’s very short on time and includes a separate science section.

Your EBRW score was very good on your SAT. I suggest you work on improving your math section on the SAT and learn a bit on how to do the essay, then try it again. You can also try the ACT. Do a practice test and see if you like it. With super scoring, your potential to get a better score on the SAT is good.
