Should I take this college course?

Recently, I was considering taking Multivariable Calculus at a local community college (which is starting soon) since I finished AP Calc BC and am taking AP Stats. But, most people taking Multi at our school have completed AP Stats and have no other math classes to take. My main goal is to increase the rigor of my course load for the Top 20 level schools that I am applying to. I believe that my course load (6 APs in 4 years, maximum is 11 APs) hasn’t been as impressive/rigorous compared to others at my school and others applying to similar colleges.

The class would involve 4 hours of lecture per week for the semester as well as homework. My main concern is the time commitment, which I may be able to better use on my college apps and other activities. I’ve also heard that high school counselors will grade one’s course load as “most rigorous” or “very rigorous” when applying, so would this math course change that? Most importantly, do you think it’s worth the time and effort for me to take this math course to increase my chances at top schools?

Depends upon what your other classes are. No college has an expectation that applicants take courses outside their HS curriculum, particularly when HS offerings are not exhausted. You have a math class. You may not need 2.

Your GC rates the rigor. So ask him/her if your schedule will be deemed most rigorous.

If I understand correctly, multivariable calculus is offered at your high school. If so, some might wonder why you took the course elsewhere.

May or may not be an issue, however, it is something to think about before making such a commitment at your local community college.

I interpreted as the OP used a misplaced modifier. Should be ""most people at our school who are taking MVC at the CC… "

I don’t believe that taking one additional math class will improve your chances that much. Colleges will be looking for a consistent level of rigor and achievement throughout your high school years.
