Should I take this interview even though...

I'm not super interested in the school?
A Carleton alum/rep has emailed and mailed me saying that she will be calling me later this week to arrange an informational interview. How different (if at all) is an informational interview from a regular interview?

I feel like it'd be awkward to say to her outright (especially on the phone), "I don't want to do this interview" and I figured if the interview will have similar questions I may have in later interviews coming up, it might be good practice.

What do you guys think?

You should do the interview, and prepare for it just like you would for your first choice school. You may find out that Carleton is a great match for you. Even if you don't, the interview experience will help you do your best with the schools that are high on your list.

Okay, thanks! That's what I figured. Thanks for the input.

When they say "informational," it often means it will not be used in the admissions decision (but schools may vary in how they apply the term). An "evaluative" interview is used in admissions decisions.

I agree with Northstarmom: treat this interview as would the PSAT, for example. An excellent practice for the real thing - and you may find that this school (that seems to be very interested in YOU) will move a bit higher on your list.
