Should I Take Yearbook Next Year?

Okay so I am a junior, signing up for classes for my senior year. I have taken yearbook since I was a sophomore, which is the first year that it is available for kids at my school. I really want to take it again as a senior, but my mom disagrees and says that I should not take it so that I can take sciences instead (since I want to become a doctor). My GPA is around 4.9 (weighted) and I’m a junior marshal and I’ve already taken my fair share of science and math classes. However, I have not taken Physics, which I hear is beneficial if I want to become a doctor. Is it worth it to take yearbook another year? I want to go to Stanford, UC Berkeley, or UNC Chapel Hill, so will taking yearbook for 2 semesters next year hurt my chances of getting into these schools? I will be an editor next year and I feel as if the leadership opportunity will look good on my application. I want some advice before I finalize my decision on whether or not to take it. Honestly, I want to take it, but I do not know if it is worth it. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

The leadership opportunity is more important IMO than Physics. Don’t quit something you love. Go Tarheels.

Take yearbook. Colleges will much more appreciate your dedication to a passion of yours than a class that you think will look good on an application

You’ll remember your year as yearbook editor for a lot longer than taking physics. Take yearbook.

If you really have a passion then do yearbook. But if you want to be a doctor it would be more beneficial to take physics.

My kid (who is a senior) decided not to take Yearbook in her last year.
Now we got the actual yearbooks and they are of lower design quality than in previous years and she is kind of kicking herself for not being on the team to prevent this.

If you really want physics on your transcript, you can try taking the course at a community college (either during the summer, provided it isn’t too late to sign up, or during the fall) or elsewhere. But seriously, go with yearbook. It’s far more worthwhile.

Editor in Chief of a Yearbook is a super good EC, especially compared to a Physics course. You can always take physics in college.Getting to be Editor again is a little harder.

Do you have all 3 core sciences? Bio, Chem, Physics? I am going to go against the curve here and say that I’d you are applying on the premed track or as a science major it might look weird not have taken physics. Most colleges recommend taking all three.

I love yearbook and I apent 4 years there myself, eventually becoming part of the exec board, but I do think getting some sort of exposure to physics will be helpful before entering college

While it is a requirement for med school admissions, that does not mean you need to take it in HS.

While I agree, I’m not sure that I would forego yearbook with a leadership opportunity just to squeeze in physics. As mentioned earlier, if OP really wanted physics, I’d look at the cc route. However, I really doubt that lack of physics will be a make-or-break on the application.

Have you already taken a regular or Honors Physics course, or have you not taken ANY physics at all?
If not, try to take it through a community college nearby (choose the “easy introduction” version, NOT the “general physics for engineering majors” version!.. the “easy intro” version will still be hard and very fast-paced if you haven’t had physics :p… and you’ll take the harder one in college with a basic idea of what’s going on). You could also take the class through a virtual high school (I know of Florida Virtual School and K12, but there has to be more.)
This way, you can take Yearbook Editor, which, I agree, is more significant for your application, especially if you’ve had a rigorous courseload already.
