Should I talk about MOOCs in my application?

I’ve taken two online courses on Coursera and attended several lectures by eminent scientists related to my intended field of study. I can’t say I’ve taken the knowledge I’ve gained and ‘done’ anything with it, but my experiences with these courses/lectures have definitely shaped my thinking, served as a useful platform for me to delve deeper into particular topics and inspired me to carry out an independent research project. Should I mention these in the extracurriculars section of my application, in my essay, somewhere else, or not at all? For the UC app, can I list these under coursework other than a-g?

I know this might seem trivial, but I’ve put a lot of time and effort into working through these courses and assimilating the knowledge I’ve gained, and I really want that to show through on my application.

It might make for an interesting essay topic. Colleges appreciate students who show curiosity and who enjoy learning and personal development. I’m not sure if it is considered an extracurricular, however, because it is academic and you admitted you didn’t actually apply the knowledge outside of school.
