I am a rising Junior at Case Western Reserve University majoring in B.S. Biochemistry and minoring in Psychology. I have a 3.2 GPA but have been showing a upward trend in GPA 2.75, 3.25, 3.0, 3.4. My aspirtations are to get into medical school or get an O.D. Case is a great school for academics but it is extremely focused and feels more like a high school away from home than a college. I dont mind working my ass off at school I would just like to enjoy my downtime much more and have the full college experience for the next to years of my life. I have already gotten in to UM and have to decide extremely soon if it is the right choice to leave Case. Miami is not as highly praised as Case is and I believe could be easier to achieve good grades. If I stay at Case I would need to change to a B.A. because I am a behind and would not be able to graduate on time, but if I transfered to Miami I would be able to continue my B.S. degree. Would I be increasing my chances for medical school if I transferred and showed a boost in GPA at Miami (like a cum of 3.75) while enjoying my college life or should I stick it out for another 2 years and realistically have around a 3.4-3.5 GPA with showing an upward trend?

Change your major, switch to BA, that part does not matter at all when applying to medical school. I did that myself when I was in college. I knew others who did also. In fact, I know some people in engineering who changed to a liberal arts degree at the end just so they could graduate already. Then, in some cases, they still ended up working in that field (in the case of computer engineering). In your case, your goal is to get in to med school. No school will care if you have a BA vs a BS. Also, it is harder to get in to med school with a biochem degree than a music degree. This is largely due to how much harder it is to keep up your GPA [Music Major 66% Chance of MD Acceptance!!! | Pre-Medical Allopathic [ MD ] | Student Doctor Network](<a href=“Music Major 66% Chance of MD Acceptance!!! | Student Doctor Network”>Music Major 66% Chance of MD Acceptance!!! | Student Doctor Network) Just switch your major to whatever you can finish the quickest in and get your GPA up. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice. Both of the colleges will allow me to graduate in 4 years. I just don’t know if being a transfer student to a school that is not as rigorous as my original school will hurt me when my acceptance is being determined?

When you posted this question yesterday I asked about comparing research and internship opportunities…have you been able to take advantage of the multitude of opportunities afforded by Case grad students, professors, the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals? I would think this would help with med school admission more than transferring to a less rigorous school…
