I go to UConn as a junior this year but cant get into the business school which i wanted. I therefore was going to major in economics and take a few business and math courses and try to get into a grad school for business(not economics). However I have a 2.4 gpa now and the most I can get it up to after 2 more years is about 3.1 so im not sure thats enuough to get into a grad school. options for a grad school would be say bentley, northeastern, stonehill, babson, bu or something around there in boston and i want to go to a well known grad school. but if i cant get in, then i only have an economics social science bachelors degree. OR, I could transfer to UMass Boston or UMass Lowell to get a business bachelors after next semester, then try for a grad school (but if I couldnt get into a decent grad school then at least I would have a bachelors for business).

So, if I can get into one of those grad schools for business by staying at UConn with a 3.1 gpa then I would do that. If I cant (and I feel like a 3.1 is too low) then should I transfer to a low school to get a BBA? How much emphasis is put on gpa vs GRE's?

Well, if you transfer it won’t erase your GPA. You will still have to send a report of your grades from UConn when applying to grad school. Did you fail any classes? Did you get a D in any classes? If you have, then you can retake those classes and get your GPA up that way. It will be a little expensive depending on how many you have to take, but it should boost up your GPA. Combine that with the new courses you need to take, you might be OK.

Its more important to change your attitude. Ask yourself - what am I doing differently? Why should I expect different results than before? What do I want to reach for? Just motivate yourself. Its always a hard thing to transfer, I think you should try your best to stay, because there are always differences in credits and you could end up being a starting sophomore or something.

And consider the change in environment, which is something to adjust to. It might be a long difficult road ahead of you, but thats OK if you have the right mindset and habits.

I had one D in an elective but I didn’t know you could make up D’s I thought only F’s? But I can get it over a 3.0 to a 3.1-2 at best, but you don’t think a 3.1 in economics with 5 or 6 business and math classes and good GRE’s is enough for bentley or northeastern grad school? I had mid 600s on the SATs so I would expect mid to upper 600s on the GRE’s. If that’s not good enough for those business grad schools then I would have to transfer.

Might as well bump this up for you seems like you may need to opinion of others.

But yes, as far as I know, you can retake a class if you get a D.

My main point is that you cannot erase your scores from college. They are going to get to your grad school one way or another since you cannot simply submit your junior and senior years and ask they are not question what happened to that big two years missing in their files. Don’t use transferring as a way to escape your grades.
