Hey guys , I finished my 1st semester at Cornell and I have to say its like they said -- its a really hard school. I was accepted by all the UCs in senior year but I chose Cornell. Right now I'm having misgivings about my choice. I feel that I can't form good relationships at Cornell and the schoolwork is mainly the problem. My friend at UCI says its really easy and he even admits that he was really dumb in high school and he's the best there now... do you think I should transfer to UCI? I kind of want to go to medschool with a high GPA and it seems easier to do that at UCI.

Also, my social life at Cornell is kind of eh... I don't have a good group of friends and I am kind of struggling with the course work. Sometimes I feel lonely at Cornell. I don't know if its the school or who I am... suggestions? input? thanks

I think the coursework would be easier at a UC than an Ivy League, but probably less than you would think.

The social life at Cornell is probably better than UCI’s, haha. That school isn’t known for a high level of social activity.

I’d say submit an application to transfer to UCI next November, just to keep your options open. If it were me, however, I’d stay for the Ivy League diploma.

yeah transfer out dude.

to be honest, it probably won’t be any easier in UCI. That place is Pre-med central.

Since you are in, you might as well stay. I would never transfer to a lesser school just because the classes are hard. Just take 4 classes and study.

If you want to go to med school with a high gpa, choose an easier major. U can major in anything, even history, as long as you take the required courses for med school. Calculus is calculus and bio is bio. No reason for you to transfer

You should not transfer just because you can’t cope with the difficulty. It might prepare you better for what’s to come in med school. Also, it’s only been one semester, maybe you just need a while to get used to your school. I’m not going to lie, but I really don’t see how coming to UCI will improve your social life =/ It’s a big school but not really…active I would say. As far as academics go, it does get competitive but I do think it’ll be easier for you to maintain a high GPA at UCI if you’re thinking about pre-med. I don’t know where the misconception that UCI has a cutthroat pre-med culture comes from. The curving is very generous.

Is there any financial reason to transfer out of Cornell? Personally, I would stay at Cornell if I were you. It sounds like an amazing place to be so maybe you just need to give yourself some more time. Also, as a transfer, it might be hard to determine which of your course credits transfer over. UCI has a rather annoying set of General Education requirements. You’ll be severely behind if your units don’t transfer for at least some of those requirements. Anyway, it doesn’t hurt to submit an application.

say what you want, but UCI’s pre-med IS NOT EASY. If you’re having trouble at Cornell you’re gonna have trouble at a top UC. Come to Berkeley and I garuntee it’ll be much harder than Cornell. That being said, I think you should go to UCI because it’s better for you overall than Cornell. Too many people get caught up in the “prestige” of ivy league schools. I’m a pre-med and I’m making my decision with projected GPA being at the top of my list. Just because you get in somewhere, doesn’t mean you should go there. So transfer out of Cornell and come to a UC, but it won’t be a breeze. It’ll be more manageable.
