I took a lot of AP classes so I think I can get through my GE’s quickly. I live in California so it is much easier to transfer to Berkeley from CC than getting in as a Freshmen. I think if I work hard I make it. But I have an offer from SD.
I want to do business, specifically startups, maybe working with other people to start our own. So I was thinking, you know long term relationships, 4 year relationships are better to get into the startup scene, going straight to SD might be better. But my parents also brought up a good point that Berkeley is more prestigious and that it is near silicon valley.
I don’t know which option to take. And I also don’t want to miss out on the 4 year college experience. Its not the fraternities or partying and stuff like that. For me, it’s more coming in as a freshmen, getting involved, establishing lifelong friendships, taking advantage of the opportunities(internships, etc), getting to know the professors that appeals to me going straight.
Really, I’m asking is it worth it to reject the offer at UCSD as a freshmen to go to CAL as a transfer?
UCB is certainly not guaranteed, even if you work extremely hard at a CC. UCSD is still a fantastic school. Go enjoy a 4-year experience at UCSD, and explore summer internships in SV if that’s your ultimate goal. Have fun!
Go to UCSD. Like BayArea wrote, “UCB is not guranteed.” Don’t take the risk. Keep in mind that UCSD is a wonderful school, and you will enjoy your experience.
You want to do business, so I assume you are looking at transferring into the Haas School of Business at Berkeley, after completing your 60 units at a CC. The transfer rate into Haas is 5.6%.

UCSD is a great school. I suspect that if you go there you will come to love it and change your mind about transferring.
UCSD is a great school. What was the major you were admitted to? You can do a business minor through the Rady school at UCSD.
Attending UCSD does mean that you will be stuck there. Choose your classes wisely, get a great GPA, and you will have the option of applying for transfer after two years if you are not satisfied or interested in a change of scenery at UCSD.
Many UC to UC transfers make the switch every year. If you are a competitive applicant and have chosen transferable courses, they will accept you regardless of where you are from.
@showmom858 I’m undeclared social sciences at the moment. I was interested into switching into Economics but it’s a capped major. So I was worried about not being able to switch into it later on.
