It is hand down the most perfect and wonderful essay I have written.
I put a ton of work into it.

I know the common app says to keep it under 500, but should I use my 800 word essay?
Would it **** off admissions officers a lot?

Use it, but first cut out 300 words…

Edit: actually, you could probably get away with only cutting 250 words…

Born, that is not possible.
Might as well say not to use it.

any more opinions?

^You have to force yourself to cut it down to at least 650 if you want to use it. As hard as it sounds, it is very possible…

ah…another who has a hard time understanding the meaning of writing an essay between 250-500 words.

it sounds like a great plan to use an essay you’re already happy with, but you really need to cut it down to close to 500- if you don’t, adcoms will get annoyed and it’ll hurt you.

If your essay already reads like a narrative and has some dialogue, being above 600 wouldn’t hurt too much but 800 is still far too much. Dialogue would make your essay seem shorter, especially since it usually means your paragraphs are shorter (in narrative prose).
