I currently attend a community college. My plan has been to transfer to a 4 year during the Fall 2014 semester. However, I've had to drop my physics class this semester so that puts me behind. My top choice was/is UIUC. The problem is they want all the course requirements fulfilled by the spring prior to entry. I can't do that now obviously so now I have a problem. I can wait a year, take physics 1-3 and try to enroll in the Fall 2015 semester, or I can just not apply to UIUC. I don't want to wait a year at all, but I really would like to go to UIUC especially since I am instate. What should I do?

It really depends on how badly you want to attend UIUC and what your chances are realistically to get in there. Imagine if you wait until 2015 and then are not admitted, will that be a big problem? What other schools will you apply to and what major are you going for?

I suggest you lay out all your options for this year and those if you decide to wait a year and then consider whether you prefer to move to a 4-year on your list that is not UIUC right away or wit for an additional year. It is a very personal decision which only you can make but you need to also be realistic about your chances to get in to each of your possible schools.
