So basically I'm a community college student looking to transfer to a public state university this fall. My GPA isn't very good though - currently a 3.62.

Assuming I ace my classes this quarter, I should be able to raise it to a 3.66 by the end of March. Transfer student applications for the university I want to attend are due on the first of April.

Is it better to apply early instead of waiting until the last minute, or will a 3.7 make a lot of difference compared to a 3.6?

It depends on where you’re applying. Many state schools have articulation agreements with the CCs which specify what GPA they’re looking for.

You also need to ask yourself how realistic it is that you will ace all your classes this semester.

Other things being equal, and if the school doesn’t have a firm cutoff, I think you’re better off applying early, because the difference between a 3.62 and a 3.66 is not all that remarkable. You can always send your quarter grades when they come in, if they’re strong.
