I have a PC right now, and it's extremely ill. haha
I plan to buy a new mac, but I heard that lot's of colleges offer you special discounts and free tech services and downloads if you buy a new mac or pc through the University itself. Of course the computer will be brand new and everything.
I'm thinking of attending Ohio State University next fall, and I can't figure out if they do the same thing.

Anybody know anything about this or have any suggestions????

I have seen few colleges or universities selling Macs with substantial discounts. Usually, the discount available is the same one offered through the online Apple Education Store - this amounts to $50-$150 off the regular price. Some universities sell Apple’s AppleCare 3-year warranty, which includes free tech service, but it is not cheap to buy in the first place. I am not aware of special discounts/service/downloads that require that you purchase your Mac through the college.

I would wait until the late Spring/early Summer, when Apple usually runs an Education special. In the past, this usually involved throwing in other free products with the purchase of a Mac - typically an iPod and a printer. I used this special to buy my daughter a Mac last year, and she got an iPod touch and a nice Canon printer out of it.

I agree with ALF, most likely you would just be eligible for the same student discount as you can already get through the Apple store online. Waiting till spring/summer will get you the back-to-school deals (iPod touch, etc), and also mean that the newest set of Macs (upgraded parts and so on) will probably be out. As long as your PC can make it another few months, I would say wait :)

Ya same.
I think the educational discount is the same whether you buy it at Apple or from the University. It’s the same at the colleges I’ve been accepted to (PSU, Pitt, Rutgers, Uconn…)

Btw, new Macbook pros are coming either this Thurs or March 1st. :)
