Should I worry about AP classes if I plan to go to an art college?

This is something that I’ve been contemplating for a long time now. In junior year I’ve taken 1 AP class (AP Comp & Lit),
and I’m starting senior year with 1 AP class again (AP Envrionmental Science).

I’ve been thinking about switching out of my regular English class and entering an AP English class so that I have 2 APs, but do you think it’s worth it? I really want to focus on my art portfolio. Moreover, I really enjoy the English class that I’m in (It’s a Psych Literature class), and I don’t feel as interested in taking AP Literature.

I plan on going to an art college–My mother works at the School of Visual Arts, and if I attend the school I’ll be tuition free, something that I’m very grateful for. With that being said, should I take the 2nd AP class or just keep the regular English class that I enjoy thus far?

TL;DR: Senior year, taking only 1 AP class, I’m thinking about picking up a 2nd AP class but it’s not a class i’m interested in, especially in the long-run.

How competitive will the admissions process be for you at the school you’re going to attend? If you think you’d be less engaged in an AP course than a regular course, and you’re not worried about the number of courses you’re going to have to take in college, then the only reason to take extra APs is to make yourself more competitive. If your stats are at or above the level of other applicants, people have historically not taken a lot of APs and gotten in, and/or you think your mother working at the school will help you get admitted, then you shouldn’t be worried.

Regardless, you’ve only got one year left. If you would hypothetically be able to get the same grade in both courses, it really doesn’t make much of a difference whether you take one AP or two - take the course that you’d find more interesting.
