Help! AP English vs. portfolio

It's been about a week since I've started my senior year in high school and I have decided to go for art major (visual) not long ago.
Although I'm thinking of majoring in art, I'm not planning to go to art schools because I want to double major in other area (probably econ) along with art.
Since I'm planning to go to art college in university, I have to keep up my GPA and SATs along with my portfolio. Last year, I took 2 AP classes and got 4 and 3. This year, I am taking 2 more AP classes, AP English and AP Bio. My GPA is around A so that's fine, but should I take AP English or not? I thought taking 2 AP classes would be too busy for me since I dont have much time to finish my portfolio (I started at the end of summer break), and I wanted to give up AP Bio instead of AP English but our school does not give much choices, so I have to take AP bio unless I can't take science class at all. So, then if I give up one AP class to concentrate more on my portfolio, it would have to be AP English. Instead, I could just take English 12 class. Do you think that taking only one AP class this year would leave a bad representation of me to college administrators even if I'm applying for art major? Would it be better to just take 2 AP classes? If I do, I'm afraid I would run out of time for my portfolio and not be able to finish all required number of drawings. Help me on my decision whether if I should drop off AP English and concentrate more on my portfolios or if I should take 2 AP classes and just try my best to finish all my portfolios in time. Thankssss

Oh, and I'm also going to register for AP art possibly.

IMO, you need think about which class can help you grow more as a person. if you are strong in English, AP won’t take much time at all.

AP English, if you have a good teacher who prepares you for the test, WILL take a lot of time. Not to say you shouldn’t do it.

I’d recommend looking at admissions requirements of the U’s you are interested in. Not all U’s require a portfolio for entry to art. Many look only at grades; you have to take art classes at U and then apply for the BFA program (with a portfolio) after Freshman or during Soph year.

Some U’s DO want a portfolio w/ application.

Just something to look at. If your top U’s don’t require a portfolio, a focus on grades and testing out of some Gen-Ed things might be good. If you test out of Freshman Eng, that will give you more time at college to focus on art.
