My son has just finished 10th grade, he is an excellent student and has pretty good chances of getting full (almost?) scholarship here at the Uni of MD but we really want to move to the San Diego area some time in the future and his getting into UCSD seems like a very good idea (would also be a stimuli for us the family to move to CA).

Now, my question here is whether or not my son should retake his SAT II Math II test that he passed in 9th grade (last year). He got 720 on that test. He took SAT II US History this year in 10th grade and got 750.

Besides these, so far he has taken:

in 9th grade: AP NSL - got 4
in 10th grade: AP Calculus BC - got 5, AP Computer Science - got 5, AP US History - got 4.

He is taking four more AP classes next year in 11th grade.

He also has more than 300 community service hours.

So bottom line is, should he retake SAT II Math II to raise it to at least 750 or will his other achievements suffice (along with the thing that he got 720 in SAT II Math II that he passed in 9th grade!!!)?

He has a lot under his sleeve next year (PSAT plus four APs plus one SAT II subject test, probably Chemistry) and I don't want to stress him out additionally with retaking something that might not even matter.

He is thinking about Computer Science major.

In my opinion, unless he can get over 750 I’m not sure it’ll be worth the effort to retake it. It since it seems like he’s already going to be swamped with AP classes and because his SAT II score is already pretty decent, it’ll probably be better for him to focus on maintaining a high GPA.

In my opinion, I think his SAT II scores are fine.
I don’t know how much you know about in-state versus out-of-state tuition, but you might want to check into that–I know I wouldn’t want to pay the terrible out-of-state tuition if my entire family (and even the new house I consider home!) lived in state.

a high GPA + a decently high SAT + community service (more than 300 is excellent) + extraordinary personal statement + E.c.'s that show who your son is [i. sport’s + books + technology + teaching = a well rounded student that seems to enjoy and fit into everything. Just an example though, don’t take this to heart lol] = a high chance of getting into UCSD.

for the record, I’m in state so I have a higher chance, but my SATs were around average, my SAT II’s were definitely below average (Math II was 650, Spanish: 620]- but in everything else I made it clear that I hate SATs (not specifically, but i excelled in the other “categories”)

So to sum up:
He doesn’t have to retake the SATs. 720 is fine.

A 720 in Math II should be fine. Also, SAT IIs are no longer required for UCs, and they’re only strongly recommended if you’re applying to an engineering or bio/physical science major.
