Two anecdotes about daughter in her first semester an elite.
She works in the rare books department of the main library as her work-study job. She was told by her boss that she is unique among the assistants they have had in being on time, enthusiastic, and willing to do anything asked. Apparently even the students at the school who need to bring in money are used to thinking that whatever they do is about THEM.
The other issue is that her parents (us) according to the financial guidebooks should be socking it away for retirement and letting the student borrow. However, she was able to get into a school that budgets enough for students not to need to borrow, and after having seen her older brother's experience, she has set a goal for herself of not borrowing.
I feel I should do my best to help her meet this goal. If I thought I would be eating cat food in my dotage, I would have a different take.
