thanks! ^ i hope mine came today

Our acceptance rate went up while our applicant number rose… We’re expanding our classes, but I still can’t image us needing many more from the waitlist.

Running some quick numbers, 2150 students were accepted, and we had a yield rate of 59% last year. I think yield rate will fall by a percent or so this year, so let’s say 58% yield. That’s 1247 taking the offer.

We want a class of 1300, so we’d be accepting around 50-70 off the waitlist. Hopefully though, yield will stay high and we only need to accept 40ish from the waitlist.

^thank you Yes I wasn’t expecting more than 100… hopefully I’ll be lucky…Are you affiliated with Princeton?

are you guys going to send in extra stuff, or do you think we shouldn’t (judging by the letter)?

well they said not to, unless you have “late breaking news”

i dont think you want to annoy them, or tick them off.

Here’s one off the waitlist!
Just in case it makes you guys feel better that your chances improved a bit. :P

oops, made a mistake. nvm

when did you get off the waitlist!?

EDIT: oh wait, i get it, you’re turning down Princeton.

Thanks! :)

I wonder when they will start calling.

I bet… tuesday. Maybe Wednesday.

And I was doing some research, and the post by randombetch is a bit off.

Yes the yield was 58%, but if you back-check, it’s not accurate. The only way it works is if you take the Final class size/(Admits RD + WL) . So before WL, assuming 100% yield, it was 55.5% ish. So that would mean approximately 106 people get off the WL to reach a class size of 1300.

I think they started calling on the fourth or fifth of May last year.

no it was the 6th, according to last year’s CC threads. But you might be right of course.

and I don’t know if this will help, but according to http://registrar.princeton.edu/university_enrollment_sta/common_cds2008.pdf all of the “148” taken off the waitlist are counted as attending. That means, they made more than 148 offers, perhaps 200, and those people may have said no!

And I used those to confirm that yes, in order for the admit rate to be 9.2%, that would be before waitlists. And same with the yield… which (before WL) would be calculated
like: (1243-148)/(2122-148)=.55471…

so about 55.5%

That’s kind of exciting!
I’m not hoping for anything, but it’s nice to know that there’s still a sliver of a chance.

Good luck everyone
It’s going to be one longgggg week with the waiting and AP’s!!

yeah it will be… good luck to you too!

oh and join the [facebook group](http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=68699480027&ref=ts) if you haven’t already!

I imagine money has a little bit to do with who gets off the waitlist.

Miles, if you are talking about the ability to donate, money has absolutely nothing to do with who on the WL gets an offer. In the very rare event where there are ‘development’ cases, they typically would have been offered admission initially and would not be on the WL. The total number of these cases at the leading private universities might be one or two a year (and in many years none) and even those are always students who are able to do the work even if they wouldn’t be expected to be at the top of their class. The WL is usually used to fill in the gaps that exist after other students have matriculated. Does the orchestra need another oboist that it didn’t get in the first round? Does the school need more female engineers or students interested in the creative arts? These are the kinds of questions that typically inform the decisions made on the WL.

^ I think he meant that WL admissions are not need blind… do you think that is true? They told us they will provide full financial aid to those who need it, but never mentioned whether it will be a factor.

The need for financial aid is absolutely not a factor in any part of the admissions process at Princeton.

wheww thats a relief thanks PtonGrad2000.

So guys, its coming up! I still think it is starting wednesday… but you never know about tomorrow! Good luck to you all… I want this sooo badly… well you all know how I feel :)

so… just wondering, do these waitlist contacts come in waves until june?
