Should waitlisted students hold their breath?

yeah… like one wave most likely tomorrow/thusday… and then another beginning of june… and another at the end.

Thats how it was last year (according to my searches on CC)… but they probably sporadically call people inbetween big waves.

has anyone gotten calls?

no ivies have gone out yet…

i wish!

hey guys post on here when you do get called okay? I think itll be tomorrow/thursday.

[Rapelye: Yield will be above 50 percent - The Daily Princetonian](http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/2009/05/06/23653)

“We are hoping to go to the waitlist [Rapelye said], and we are expecting to do that in the next 10 days or so,” she said. “We do have a few more spots left in the class.”

The yield for the Class of 2013 has been in the “high 50 percent range,” Rapelye explained. In an interview with The Daily Princetonian on Tuesday, she declined to give more specific numbers since her office is “still waiting for postmarked [responses] to come in,” but she did say that she thinks the “early returns are quite solid.”

The University’s yield was 58.6 percent for the Class of 2012, the first class admitted after the elimination of Early Decision. In earlier years, 69.2 and 67.8 percent of admitted students matriculated into the classes of 2010 and 2011, respectively.

I’m going to stay with my earlier guess that yield will end up being about the same as last year, though the above comments suggest that it might have increased just a little. I would still guess that there may be 50 or so offers to students on the waitlist and those calls should go out relatively soon according to Rapelye. Good luck to all of you who are on the waitlist. You should know soon.

basketballbabe: do you really want to know if people get called? I, personally, think it would be very difficult to hear that other people are getting off the waitlist when I myself haen’t been taken off yet.
Of course, if YOU get called you should definitely tell us, cause I think that we are all rooting for you to get it  , but otherwise I don’t think it’s good idea to find out about others…

aww haha well im rooting for all of you too
and yeah, id like to know so that my little glimmer of hope can be crushed, and i can move onto my other school… just because i know that if we dont get calls in the first round, the chances of second round calls arent as likely… since who turns princeton down!?

Its kind of nice to see that only 800 accepted their waitlist spots…

what I’ve been doing lately is checking the size of the facebook group for “princeton 2013”…it only has 933 people on it. considering that the target for the class is like 1200 (?) and there can’t be that many people who aren’t on facebook…

other schools that are smaller/same size as princeton have bigger groups for their classes of 2013, so hopefully this means that way less ppl are going to P than usual

thats a good idea. and yeah on the article it says above 50, suggesting a 50-55% yield before WL’s. Rapelye says high 50s, but I believe she is comparing that to the final yield? Well I hope so. but yeah here are some approximate numbers…

if there was a 50% yield (I WISH! haha)- 225 will be taken off the waitlist.
53%- 160 will be taken off
55%(last years b4 WL)- 117 will be taken off
58%- 53 will be taken off
60%- 10 will be taken off.

I estimate it, realistically to be 55%-58%… hopefully at least one of those is one of us!

Thanks for the article, PtonGrad, and thanks for the calculations, basketballbabe!!

I also think it’ll be around 55-58% for the initial yield.
I’m not sure if the phone calls will start today though, because the article said Rapelye was still hoping for a few more of those mailed-in replies.

just wondering,

if an international student is getting off the waitlist, will princeton email or still call them?

Someone posted in another thread that they have been accepted off the WL. Good luck to all.

^edwarddeveloper, i email them asking the same question, and ill let you know when the reply.

and yeah someone got off already! im surprised they only called one person from CC, anyone else?

okay so i recieved a reply… basically, in a nutshell, i asked three questions.

1) is it still need-blind- yes
2) will internationals (specifically canadians) recieve a phone call? - yes
3)do admitted students from our region (specifically int’ls) need to decline princeton in order for us to be offered a spot? no

hope these help, good luck to you all as always :)

Do you think the entire first batch has been released?

no no, i doubt it. All the calls reported were after hours. I think, (hypothetically), that they finished looking through a number of our apps today, made lists of who they were admitting, and divided them up among regional admissions officers… I’m sure one or two stayed late at work, or wanted to get a head start, and started calling, just because they knew they had so many calls to make tomorrow and friday.

This is just a theory. I just hope the first batch wasn’t released :(

^Ya. that would suck

I agree with basketballbabe! The calls are coming in a little late for admissions office hours, so I think the bulk of the calls will actually be made tomorrow.
I think only 3 have reported getting calls on CC, which seems a little low for CC standards too :D

good luck everyone, here’s to hoping for good news tomorrow!!
