Should you maintain contact with admissions reps who visit your school?

I've read a lot about kids emailing admissions reps who come visit and maintaining contact with them on this forum.

Is this necessary? Helpful? Redundant?

To me it would just seem like I'm pulling questions out of thin air to ask just for the sake of them "remembering me"...i dunno, it all seems kind of fake and contrived to me.

I mean just because I smile, shake their hand, and send them a "thank you" email afterwards gives them no reason to accept me, and if I do all that, it's obvious I'm doing it cuz I want to get in, even though I might be a genuinely polite person.

Am I missing/underestimating something?

I agree. I dont think this should play a factor.

Well, it shouldn't matter, but it probably does, but not a lot, maybe you could compare it to a very short mini-interview (a first impression etc.).
